A petition on its way to the House of Commons is proposing changes to the recreational food fishery in this province.
The petition, set to be brought forward by Conservative MP Clifford Small, proposes that the fishery be open every day between July 1 and October 1. Currently, the fishery is only open for 39 days on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
One of the men behind the petition, Graham Wood of Lewisporte, says the move would reduce people fishing in risky conditions and would also increase tourism.
Wood says people in this province are being hampered in comparison to their Atlantic Canadian counterparts, who are able to fish every day of the recreational fishery.
