Schools in the St. John’s metro region will be closed for the day.
NL Schools says the decision was made due to the uncertainty of the forecasted weather.
Meteorologist Justin Boudreau with the Gander Weather Office says the Avalon region will see heavy rain and fog changing to snow sometime between noon and 2 p.m.
The rain will stick around in some areas a little longer—especially along the Southern Shore. Most areas will see 5 to 10 cm this afternoon, a little more in higher elevation.
He says that will make the afternoon commute a little tricky. He says the roads will be “pretty greasy” with water on the roads ahead of the snowfall—which will be heavy at times.
Boudreau says we will get another 5 cm as the snow tapers off by mid to late evening.
