Councillor Jamie Korab says the capital city is putting added resources into sidewalk snow clearing.
For years the City of St. John’s came under fire for what many felt was a poor job on sidewalk snow clearing, with many pedestrians taking to the street instead of navigating snowbanks and icy walkways.
Korab says the city has been dedicating more money, resources and staff to sidewalk clearing over the last few years.
The city clears some 175 km of sidewalks—with the priority on high-traffic areas like collectors and arterials.
Schools zones are assigned the highest priority, with 300 metres each way in either direction of each of the city’s 36 schools. “After that, that’s when they get down to the other major streets, like your Kenmount Roads” says Korab.
