Wind warnings are in effect for some areas of the province as the remnants of a days-long storm system finally start to dissipate.
Wind warnings are in effect for the Bonavista Peninsula, the southeast Avalon and Burgeo-Ramea areas.
Gusts in those areas are in excess of 100 km/h with gusts as high as 70 km/h recorded at St. John’s according to Environment Canada meteorologist David Neil.
“That will likely continue over a lot of areas into…the early evening before gradually diminishing overnight.”
Light snow, mixed with patchy freezing drizzle will gradually taper off through the evening. Higher terrain can expect more snow than rain or freezing drizzle, making for a messy commute for many.
Driving conditions are poor in many areas.
Once the system finally moves out, the forecast looks “fairly quiet” for the rest of the week.
