A free course teaching writers how to navigate the business side of the industry begins tonight.
“The Business of Writing”, held by ArtforceNL and WritersNL, will teach young writers how to submit short fiction, nonfiction, and poetry to magazines and web publications, pitch a book to an agent or publisher, apply for grants and access royalties.
Instructor and president of WritersNL, Ainsley Hawthorn, says knowing the business side of the industry is more important now than ever, as more self-promotion is expected of authors.
She says authors have to know how to be their own advocate with publishers and agents, and know their rights so they can continue to create works the public will enjoy.
The first class takes place tonight at 7:00 p.m. over Zoom, with classes running every Wednesday over the next six weeks. Those interested can sign up by emailing ainsley.hawthorn@aya.yale.edu.
