After a house fire in Conception Bay South left a young Bantam hockey player without his gear, social media helped get him the final piece of equipment he needed.
Barry Smith, coach of the Bantam D Renegades, told VOCM that the family had trouble locating a particular size skate that fit the young player before his first practice of the season.
Smith says that they didn’t want him to miss their first practice, so they put a call out on social media and the response was overwhelming.
He got his skates in time for practice, and Smith says it just goes to show the spirit and comradery the game can bring.
He says sometimes minor hockey can get a bad reputation, but he believes that this is what hockey is all about.
