A GoFundMe for a local performer who’s make a name for himself in the art of recitation is exceeding expectations.
Dave Penny, the artist behind Johnny Chrome and Island Baker, fell seriously ill with COVID last year.
It was determined in hospital that an underlying condition contributed to the severity of his illness, and he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
He has undergone a series of chemotherapy treatments, and once in remission, is scheduled for a stem cell transplant.
The GoFundMe was set up to help him and his family with expenses. The original goal of $5,000 has been exceeded as the community rallies around Penny.
