Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who receive the federal government’s carbon tax rebate might get a smaller amount on their next cheque.
The next helping of the rebate will hit bank accounts on April 1, but base amounts have been reduced for the 2024-25 payouts.
A family of four can expect to get $298 quarterly, down from $328 paid out in 2023. A single adult will get a benefit of $149, compared to $164 last year.
Ottawa says the reductions reflect anticipated fuel charge proceeds after the fuel charge on home-heating oil was “paused” in November.
The rural supplement, meanwhile, has been doubled to 20 per cent of the base amount.
