It’s a difficult time at St. John’s City Hall.
Long-time councillor Debbie Hanlon is undergoing treatment for what her family says is an aggressive form of cancer, diagnosed only days ago when she suddenly started to experience symptoms.
Hanlon has taken an indefinite leave from council as she undergoes chemo treatment, while her real estate business is being run by her staff.
Mayor Danny Breen says he, council and city staff are extending their heartfelt support to Hanlon, calling her an invaluable member of council. He credits her for her dedication, passion and unwavering commitment to serving the community.
He says members of council will work together to ensure that her duties are covered to allow her to focus on her health and the fight ahead.
He says Hanlon has given so much of her time and support to the community and now it’s the community’s turn to support her.
