The provincial government has extended the deadline for request for proposals for future use or development of the Bull Arm Fabrication Site, which was originally developed for Hibernia.
The initial deadline was the end of February, however, that deadline has been extended to March 15.
Trades NL Executive Director Darin King says when the Bull Arm the site is operational, there has been spin-off benefits for not only nearby communities in the Arnold’s Cove area, but as far away as Glovertown and Clarenville. He says in most cases, when there is work at the site, there has been work at the Marystown Shipyard.
He believes there is more opportunity for work in Bull Arm than they’ve been seeing.
He says it’s a world class site and the potential for that site to be operational on a more regular basis doing smaller scopes of work, while still maintaining the ability to do resource development work should the opportunity arise in the future, whether that it with the oil and gas industry—such as Equinor or Bay du Nord project—or wind hydrogen projects.
King says there are a number of proponents who are looking at the site, and he hopes that there is a vision to attract more work on a regular basis for Trades NL membership and local contractors, and support local communities in the region.
He says it’s important that no matter what happens at Bull Arm, that the ability to construct resource development projects is maintained.
