For the second time in just over two weeks, a home on Spencer Street has been heavily damaged by fire.
At 1:25 a.m. fire crews were alerted to a structure fire at 6 Spencer Street.
Acting Platoon Chief Bob Hiscock, with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department, stated when crews first arrived they found heavy smoke and fire on the second floor of the home. Firefighters gaining entry to the dwelling were slowed by plywood that had been placed over the door following a previous fire on October 7.

Once crews were able to get inside they quickly knocked down most of the flames. Crews spent the next while cutting holes in the roof and interior walls to ensure no hot spots remained.
Power to the home had been disconnected during the fire of two weeks prior, and the home was mostly boarded up. The cause of this most recent blaze is under investigation.
