Adding a pharmacist to the virtual care team based out of central Newfoundland has been a success.
That’s according to Dr. Todd Young, medical director with Medicuro, who added a pharmacist to his clinic when the province expanded their scope of practice.
Dr. Young says his vision for the virtual clinic is to deliver the best care possible through various medical resources.
He says their clinic gets hundreds of requests on a daily basis, many of those are to address minor ailments—many of those medical issues can be treated by pharmacists, which takes the pressure off some physicians.
Dr. Young says through proper triage, many patients can be get the care they need with a pharmacist. They also have the ability to conduct appointments for people who are preparing to travel and need to undergo consultation and vaccinations before a trip.
