The provincial government is planning a new $13-million dollar sport, recreation and rehabilitation facility in the capital city.
Funding for the facility, which the province is calling a “sport and well-being dome,” has been set aside in this year’s budget.
The facility will be managed by Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre.
It will include exercise rehabilitation for acute care patients with conditions like heart or lung disease, orthopedic conditions, stroke and cancer.
That aspect of it will be administered by NL Health Services.
It will also include facilities for sports training and competition, such as an artificial turf, and a walking track for use by the general public.
Premier Andrew Furey says location has not yet been chosen, but that work is ongoing, and he expects that the work will take about six months once the land is chosen.
