The province has provided details on the first two projects to receive funding from the Green Transition Fund.
St. John’s International Airport will receive over $215,000 to assist in receiving Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation. It’s part of a voluntary program that helps airports reduce operating costs and increase resilience to future disruptions.
Included in the project will be the development of a carbon management plan, completion of a greenhouse gas inventory, and energy retrofits to several buildings.
The second project is being completed by Larch Grove Farm in Cormack.
The farm, which has 225 cows and produces 2.5-million liters of milk annually, is getting over $134,700 to construct an energy-efficient dairy facility.
The money will help them purchase a new feed pusher, bedding system, manure removal equipment, and alley scrapers.
The upgrades are hoped to have a positive impact on methane outputs, greenhouse gas emissions, nutrient management, recycling of products, energy consumption, and the adoption of modern technology.
