St. John’s International will be limited to one landing strip for the next few months due to rehabilitation work on one of its runways.
Runway 16-34 and some taxiways will be undergoing a seven-phase construction process from now until mid-September.
Scott Mercer, director of infrastructure at YYT, says the work is being carried out in a way that will minimize any impact to travellers, but interruptions are possible as there will be no secondary runway.
In the event of poor weather and crosswinds, Mercer says they won’t have a second runway to rely on for landings, which could lead to flight interruptions.
