A local filmmaker is working with the family of Hannah Thorne on a documentary about the tragedy that claimed the life of the young woman.
Roger Maunder says he was approached by Hannah’s mother, Gail, about the possibility of telling the family’s story and talking about distracted and dangerous driving.
18-year-old Hannah was killed when the car she was in was struck head-on by a pickup involved in street racing on the New Harbour Barrens in July of 2016.
Maunder says the project all came together through the Stand for Hannah Foundation.
He indicates he was immediately on board when he heard how compelling the story was. He calls Gail Thorne a remarkably strong woman.
Maunder interviewed members of Hannah’s family and others involved in the story, including VOCM’s GerriLynn Mackey who covered the story in provincial court in Harbour Grace.
Maunder says ultimately it’s about the consequences of distracted and dangerous driving.
