The FFAW says negotiations have broken down in talks to reach a deal for the 375 processing workers employed by Beothuk Fisheries in New-Wes-Valley and Triton and the members will be in a legal position to take a strike vote this weekend if a deal is not reached.
The union says hundreds more fish plant workers at OCI in Bonavista and the Barry Group in Witless Bay are at an impasse in their contract negotiations.
Those workers could be in a strike vote position by the end of the month.
FFAW President Greg Pretty says companies are recording profits while employees are working 10-12 hour days. The union is seeking what it calls a living wage.
He says nearly 1000 workers are affected. Membership meetings will be held in New-Wes-Valley on Sunday and Monday with times and locations to be confirmed.
