The premier and health minister are in Springdale today to elaborate on the government’s health care initiatives for the region.
Premier Andrew Furey and Tom Osborne will speak with media this afternoon at the Green Bay Health Centre.
They’ll be joined by Dr. Todd Young, owner and medical director with Medicuro Online Clinic.
The government is trumpeting the opening of the Triton Medical Clinic one day a week, virtual care to be offered by Medicuro for the La Scie Medical Clinic, and enhanced recruitment incentives to help attract doctors to the region.
The visit by Furey and Osborne comes 10 days before the May 27 byelection in the district of Baie Verte-Green Bay, following the recent resignation of Liberal MHA and cabinet minister Brian Warr who won by a slim margin in 2021.
Advance polling is set for next Tuesday, May 21.
It will mark the third byelection since January.
The Liberals’ Fred Hutton won in Conception Bay East-Bell Island, which was held by former PC leader David Brazil.
But the Opposition Tories upset the governing Liberals in Fogo Island-Cape Freels, with Jim McKenna taking nearly 58 per cent of the vote.
