The province has officially approved funding for 132 construction projects this year.
Seventy projects have been approved under the Capital Works Program. These typically include water and wastewater treatment, seawalls, and climate mitigation.
Government is providing $47-million towards projects in that category. Total cost is $60-million, the rest of which is covered by municipalities.
The second lot of projects are under the Multi-Year Capital Works Program – which is for larger communities. 62 projects have been approved at a total cost of over $61-million, of which the province pays $31-million.
These projects focus on water and sewer, paving and road construction, municipal buildings and rec facilities.
Transportation and Infrastructure Minister John Abbott says the next step for all projects is to go to tender, after which they will begin either this construction season or next.
