A new digital waitlist of parents on the hunt for daycare is now up and running with the provincial government overseeing the project.
Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell says the online platform Early Learning Gateway will improve access to early learning and child care in Newfoundland and Labrador. The platform will connect providers with parents, decrease some of the administrative burden of managing a waitlist, and improve efficiencies.
Users will be prompted to log in through MyGovNL. If users are not registered, they can do so with an MCP card, driver’s licence, or photo ID issued by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The minister says there are close to 9,400 early learning and child care spaces operating at $10-a-day or less, with a further 2,000 being developed.
The Gateway is in the early stages but Minister Howell says the system has potential for much more.
The platform will continue to evolve and new features will be added, she says.
