The capital city is installing recessed pavement markers on a number of major arterials.
An age-old complaint of commuters has been the permanency, or lack thereof, of painted lines on the road, making them nearly invisible at certain times of the year in dark or wet conditions.
The permanent reflective markers help with visibility in fog and at night.
The city says the markers cost about $5 each and have been installed on Topsail Road, Portugal Cove Road, Mount Scio Road, Blackhead Road and the Southern Shore Highway.
The city plans to install between 1,000 and 2,000 markers this year at a cost of about $10,000.
