A man and a woman from New Brunswick have been arrested and charged with drugs and weapons offences on the southwest coast.
Early last Wednesday evening, RCMP received a report of suspicious activities at a commercial building in Port aux Basques.
Soon thereafter a vehicle was pulled over and the driver, 36-year-old Cory Kinden, was found to be unlicensed. Officers determined that the license plate and vehicle did not match, and it was reported stolen in PEI on May 17.
Both Kinden and 38-year-old Krystal McCormack, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were arrested.
A later search of the vehicle turned up a quantity of methamphetamine, a prohibited weapon, drug paraphernalia and other evidence consistent with drug trafficking.
The pair appeared in court on Thursday.
Then on Saturday, police searched a hotel room that they say was occupied by the two accused. Inside they located a sawed-off shotgun—with a modified hand grip, a quantity of ammunition, opioids, and more methamphetamine.
Both Kinden and McCormack are now facing a slew of charges related to drug trafficking and firearms related offences.
They appeared in court again on Tuesday.
