The MHA for the Kenmount catchment area says she has been assured again that the new school in Kenmount Terrace in St. John’s will be ready for the fall of 2026, and that property expropriation will not delay the process.
Sarah Stoodley had hoped the school would comprise K-8, but government instead is going with a K-7 composition including pre-kindergarten.
The makeup of PWC, St. Andrews, Larkhall and Leary’s Brook has been rearranged for the next couple of years until the new facility is ready, and MHA Stoodley has been assured that steps will be taken to allow for a smooth transition to the temporary reconfiguration.
Converting the high school, PWC, to grade 8-12 is one possibility being considered.
That decision has not yet been made, says Stoodley. “They’re still looking at class size composition but the 8-12 is one idea which offers a lot of opportunity with the new track and field complex and improved Aquarena next door.”
The MHA promises that she, Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell and Infrastructure Minister John Abbott will do a town hall in the area in the near future.
