St. John’s is playing host to an international festival of choral traditions later this month.
HarbourVOICES! celebrates singing from all around the world and this year features award-winning international singer-songwriter Jacob Collier.
Collier, a six-time Grammy award winner and 12-time nominee, has performed at the Holywood Bowl, the Kennedy Centre and on Saturday Night Live and the Jimmy Kimmel show.
Co-artistic director of the HarbourVOICES festival Kelly Walsh says this year’s event is about celebrating the many ways people from around the world come together to sing “and they don’t necessarily call themselves choirs, they call themselves singing groups. And sometimes they sing for celebratory reasons, sometimes it’s for cultural reasons, so we really wanted to bring the world and show the world that a traditional choir is not the only way of coming together to sing.”
The festival begins June 29.
