Brazil took a short hiatus after resigning from provincial politics in December to focus on his health, but stated he was keeping the door open for any future opportunities.
He says he’s in good health and ready to swing the door back open to political life, only this time on the federal scale.
Brazil says he’s met with Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on numerous occasions and they see eye to eye on a number of issues, including the carbon tax and equalization.
“Pierre Poilievre and I have had some good conversations,” said Brazil. “He understands that the formula is discriminatory against Newfoundland and Labrador.” He says Ottawa putting the province’s offshore royalties as part of the revenue stream is “unfair” and needs to change.
St. John’s East has not been held by a Conservative MP since 2008.
