The province’s Immigration Minister says the province will be taking more pro-active measures to root out immigration fraud after recently becoming aware of fake NL immigration documents issued to a Nigerian man by an immigration consultant.
Gerry Byrne says the man gave his life’s savings to an “unscrupulous” immigration consultant in the hopes of fast-tracking his entry into the province.
The province issued a warning and advisory to newcomers and others yesterday warning them of falsified provincial government documents being presented to hopeful newcomers—usually at a very high cost.
“Pay-to-Play is wrong,” says Byrne “and we will never accept it.”
Bryne tells VOCM News Newfoundland and Labrador is very good at rooting out that kind of fraud, and he expects more to be said on the matter in the not-too-distant future.
“It should be better protected,” he says. “More needs to be done and we’re going to do it.”
