A former Innu Nation Chief, who is seeking re-election next month, is raising the alarm about a mould problem which he says is rampant in Natuashish homes.
Simeon Tshakapesh recently shared photos of mould that was discovered in his cousin’s washroom during renovations. He says he brought the issues to government when he was involved with the band council, but ever since he left the council nothing has been done about it.
Tshakapesh says the issue is rampant, with most homes in the community sharing the same problem. He says the mould combined with a lack of cleaning drinking water, is causing some serious health issues.
He says it is causing problems for children, seniors and people with asthma. He says it is “deteriorating our health.”
Tshakapesh says he will be writing a letter to the federal government next week outlining the concerns.
