A local advocate is highlighting the need for men’s mental health resources in the province.
Bill Jeffery, a certified counsellor, has been promoting men’s mental health through his The Lonely Man Project.
He says depression often manifests as anger in men, and people ignore the signs, sometimes until it’s too late.
He says men might be laughing and giving people high fives, but at home they’re angry and irritable and people are walking eggshells around them. He has three men who are currently coaching in his program who lived that life until learning that they had depression.
Jeffrey is hoping to open a men’s mental health resource centre—something he says is lacking in the community. Jeffery hosted a Men’s Mental Health evening this past weekend to help raise awareness.
He says men are struggling to find resources when it comes to mental health issues because such resources don’t exist in the province. It is a serious concern and should be addressed immediately, says Jeffery.
