The mayor of New-Wes-Valley says municipal councils are being faced with things they’ve never encountered before in terms of harassment and bullying.
Mike Tiller was responding to MNL’s Amy Coady who remarked on a recent Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference where municipal leaders all expressed similar experiences.
Tiller says the situation has gotten far worse in the last five years.
He says social media and the ability for people to “hide behind the keyboard” are contributing factors.
He says part of the problem is that the criticism is often broad and don’t take into account the individual councilors and staff making the decisions and trying their best.
