Food First NL’s Food on the Move pop-up markets are returning to St. John’s this summer with the aim of making fresh produce more accessible.
Program coordinator Sarah Crocker says the project started a few years ago. They hold pop-up markets at various community centres, and even libraries across the region.
Crocker says people who visit the markets can find a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.
The goal of the market, she explains, revolves around their work to address policy issues around things such as food affordability and assistance rates.
Crocker says those are really complex policy issues, and there’s a lot of advocacy work they are doing. Food on the Move, gets them out on the ground and connected with people that are affected and community organizations.
