The older of two men accused of multiple sexual violence acts against a dozen teenagers in the east end of St. John’s plans to plead guilty to all charges.
Eighty-one-year-old Bruce Escott and 63-year-old Tony Humby were arrested 15 months ago and have remained behind bars in separate jails since then—Humby at HMP and Escott in Bishop’s Falls.
Numerous court dates and appearances by video have come and gone as police and prosecutors built their case over the past year, adding more charges as more accusers came forward.
Humby and Escott are accused of teaming up to lure and abuse victims at their homes in an east end trailer park, with allegations dating from 1995 to 2022.
But they’ve now legally gone their separate ways.
Humby has pleaded not guilty to all 33 offences he’s accused of, including sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation.
His trial was to start last week and continue through the summer. But a change of lawyers scuttled those plans, and new trial dates will be set on July 25.
Escott, on the other hand, has chosen not to fight the allegations against him. He has formally pleaded guilty to one offence, and will do the same with the other 13 charges on Sept. 25.
He will be sentenced on Nov. 22.
