A young lady who hopes to be a marine biologist some day got her career started on the right foot as she helped rescue a stranded dolphin yesterday.
Brooklyn Careen, a 14-year-old from Point Lance, told VOCM News she was with a friend at the local beach when they noticed a dolphin stranded on the shore.
Brooklyn told VOCM News that she went back to her parents’ house for help, and soon a team of about 10 people—including relatives Mitchell and Rachel Careen—converged on the beach to rescue the stranded creature.
They propped the dolphin onto Brooklyn’s surfboard and used it to drag the creature back out into the ocean.
Dena Careen, Brooklyn’s mother, says her daughter loves marine science and is always surfing at the beach hoping to see different types of wildlife. Until yesterday, all she had ever come across were seals on the beach.
She says it was a really special experience for the group.
