The Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee has announced its latest list of Regatta Hall of Fame inductees.
Timothy Gibbons, the 1958 Police Crew, and Campbell Feehan have all been named in the rower/crew category.
Gibbons was recognized by his peers on the West End Police Crew as an outstanding oarsman, with a five-year run of championship wins from 1935 to 1939—a record that was unbeaten until the 1960s.
The 1958 Police Crew achieved a remarkable championship time of 9:45—breaking the elusive 10 minute barrier, a feat achieved only eleven times between 1958 and 1978.
A name synonymous with the Royal St. John’s Regatta, Campbell Feehan, began his racing career at the age of 13 in 1975 when he won his first race with Dunn’s Pharmacy in a time of 5:09. He followed that up with a second win in 1976, rowing with J.J’s Gulf with a time of 6:10. He was named Oarsman of the Year in 1987, and joined the Regatta Committee in 2015.
The induction ceremony takes place on Wednesday, July 31.
