The provincial government is reminding the public not to operate drones near forest fires.
There are currently 12 active wildfires burning in the province, all of which are in Labrador. The most significant blaze, near Labrador city, has forced the evacuation of the town.
The province says drones pose a “significant risk” to firefighting, particularly as it relates to waterbombers and other aerial equipment.
They say pilots need to operate in clear and unobstructed airspace, and unauthorized drones could delay firefighting efforts and put the lives of crews at risk.
Unapproved drone use could result in fines and legal action.
