The work of Vincent Van Gogh, the master, yet tortured, Dutch artist, still moves people to this day.
While Van Gogh’s paintings didn’t capture a lot of attention during his lifetime, they now captivate the world, with paintings, when they become available, fetching record amounts of money.
The emotional impact of Van Gogh’s work, is what inspired the creation of an immersive experience that allows people inside his amazing and colourful paintings.
The Van Gogh Experience is on display at the St. John’s Convention Centre from now until September.
Fanny Curtat, art historian for the Van Gogh Experience, says the idea came out of the pandemic, allowing people to experience and enjoy art while staying socially distanced.
She says it’s not unusual for people to get quite emotional while experiencing the exhibit.
“And that has been so rewarding,” says Curtat. after working so long in isolation putting it together during pandemic lock-downs and periods of social distancing, “Once we saw it with people, and people reacting to his work” she smiles, “we can’t take all the credit, Van Gogh’s work is doing all the heavy lifting here, his work is emotionally so powerful.”
