There was a small cabinet shuffle in Ottawa Friday to fill the portfolio vacated by Newfoundland MP Seamus O’Regan.
Former Government House Leader, Steven MacKinnon was sworn-in as the new federal minister of labour and seniors.
MacKinnon fielded questions from reporters about whether he’s concerned if the winds of political change are blowing, and whether the Liberal government needs to take things in another direction.
He told reporters he doesn’t believe Canadians are judging the decisions being made “in a harsh way.” He says they are confident in their policies, and says the only constant, is that things change, “what we assume to be true today, will not necessarily be true tomorrow.”
O’Regan announced Thursday that he was resigning from cabinet. He will stay on as MP, but won’t be seeking re-election in the next federal election.
