Two teenagers were sent to hospital after an ATV and dirt bike collided on a trail near Bonavista.

RCMP were called to the collision around suppertime on Saturday.

They say the two machines, coming in opposite directions, were reportedly driving at a high rate of speed and did not have enough time to avoid crashing into each other.

The two 17-year-old drivers were taken to hospital in Bonavista, with one transported to the Health Sciences for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The other teen was released without need for additional treatment.

The investigation continues.
