The province’s chief veterinary officer is continuing to investigate after 19 dogs were found dead on a property in New Harbour earlier this week.
RCMP were called after reports of a gunshot in the area of Newhook’s Hill around 7 p.m. Monday night.
When officers arrived, they discovered the dead animals, including puppies, in a vehicle owned by a man originally from Ontario. Two other dogs were found alive and taken to the SPCA to be cared for.
Toby Cadotte, 52, was arrested and charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty and one count of careless use of a firearm.
He was released to appear in Harbour Grace provincial court on Sept. 25th.
