The MHA for Labrador West thinks government is putting the cart before the horse in attempts to develop the Julienne Lake iron ore deposit.
The province began accepting expressions of interest to develop the massive deposit earlier this week, with the hopes of turning the Lab West site into a thriving iron ore mining operation to aid in the growing demand for critical minerals.
The NDP’s Jordan Brown says he’s all for expanding the industry that has thrived in the region for years, but he isn’t sure current services would be enough to meet anticipated demands and influx of new workers.
Brown says the housing market in the area is already tight, leaving few options for people looking to settle down with their families.
He says other issues of concern include the need for improved and expanded health care services.
