Some big names in professional hockey will be hitting the links in St. John’s next week to raise money for a number of local charities.
Montreal Canadiens’ forward and St. John’s native Alex Newhook is carrying on a tradition spearheaded by the late broadcasting legend Bob Cole with his first charity golf classic
Newhook will be joined by a number of his pro hockey pals with the first event, a fan fest and charity auction, taking place at the Emera Innovation Centre on Signal Hill on Monday evening.
Fellow Habs Josh Anderson, Justin Barron and Jayden Struble will be flying in for the event. Bay Roberts native and New Jersey Devil forward Dawson Mercer will also be there, alongside the PWHL’s Maggie Connors and former Maple Leafs goaltender Curtis “Cujo” Joseph.
Newhook and friends will then continue their fundraising efforts on the golf course at the Bally Haly Country Club at Clovelly Estates on Tuesday.
Funds raised will be donated to several charities, including the REAL Program, Cancer Care Foundation and Iris Kirby House.
