Those who operate short term rentals on platforms like Airbnb have until November to register with the provincial government or face penalties.
Tourism Minister Steve Crocker says the number of small accommodations has exploded in the past few years; the problem is that very few were properly regulated. He says updates to the accommodations act put everyone from hotels to BnB’s on an even playing field.
So far, over 2,700 operators have registered ahead of the November deadline.
Crocker says only those registered will have the ability to advertise their rental on booking sites.
“If you want to advertise on their platform, you will need the registration number from the province. If you don’t have that number come this fall, you will no longer be able to advertise on these platforms.
