One man is dead and another is facing impaired driving charges following a crash in St. John’s yesterday morning.
The incident, involving a pedestrian and a vehicle, happened at the intersection of Hamel Street and Freshwater Road around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Police say the victim, a 61-year-old man, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but was pronounced dead a short time later.

But they say the vehicle involved, a grey Dodge Ram pickup, which also took out a light pole, sped away before police arrived.
However, a description of the truck from witnesses helped find it and its driver a short time later in a parking lot on George Street West.
The driver, 37-year-old Mark Duke of Fox Harbour, was arrested and charged with impaired driving causing death and failure to stop at the scene of a collision.
He made a brief first court appearance and remains in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday.
Police are also appealing to the public for any video they might have of the incident.
