It’s a test of athletic abilities not for the weak. The St. John’s triathlon will return for its 40th year this weekend.
Athletes have two options—the standard event, which includes a 1.5 km swim, 46 km bike ride and 10 km run, or complete a 2 km swim, 92 km bike ride, and half marathon.
Top athletes who choose the longer and more challenging race will get the chance to represent Canada at the World Championships in Spain in September 2025.
One of the organizers, John Walsh, says the lengthy event taking place at Sunshine Rotary Park will have an impact on traffic in the area.
Bennett’s Road will be closed until 4 p.m. and will only be accessible to local traffic. He’s asking anyone who may be in the area on Sunday to have some patience and be extra cautious if they should see any athletes.
