Three teenagers have been taken into custody by Austrian authorities after foiling their plans to carry out a terrorist attack at three now-cancelled Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna.
Reports from international media say the three suspects had plans to use knives or homemade explosives outside the stadium in an attack inspired by Isis and al-Qaida.
Authorities put the brakes on Swift’s three sold out shows, leaving tens of thousands of fans from all over the world disappointed.
Newfoundlander Grant Dwyer and his family travelled to Vienna to see the pop star in concert. He says their trip was going great, until news broke the night before.
He says things got a bit more concerning the next day when more information about the suspects and their plans came out in the media. While Dwyer and his two teen daughters were disappointed about the cancellation, they now feel relieved that they avoided what could have been a tragic attack.
Dwyer says the family may make the trip to the U.K. where Swift’s London concerts are expected to go ahead next week under heightened security.
