If all goes according to plan, Marystown will be reconnected via a Bailey bridge next summer.
The permits are in place and tenders have been called for construction of the bridge, which is expected to be in place next June.
Premier Andrew Furey was in Marystown Friday to deliver the news and answer questions about the bridge situation.
Mayor Brian Keating says the temporary bridge may not be all things to all people, but it will do the job until the permanent structure is built.
The Bailey bridge will be a single-lane route with stop lights on both ends and a pedestrian walkway across.
