Two of three people injured in a plane crash on the province’s west coast last week have been released from hospital.
The plane was one of two carrying out science surveys on marine mammals when it went down in rough terrain on the southern shore of the Bay of Islands in the Blow Me Down Mountains.
It happened shortly after lunchtime last Friday.
The Cessna plane was contracted out of Quebec by DFO, and was carrying three fisheries staff from the Maurice Lamontagne Institute in Quebec, plus the pilot.
One of the employees, a 24-year-old woman, died at the scene while a 26-year-old man was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Two other women, aged 28 and 23, were treated for less serious injuries and have since been released.
DFO says the department is devastated, adding their thoughts are with the families of the victim and the injured.
The Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
