New trial dates have been set for a woman banned from practicing acupuncture in this province.
Xiao Hong Liu had been practicing for years in the province until the first complaints about the cleanliness of her St. John’s clinic in 2019.
But the Chinese woman ignored the concerns, and was ultimately suspended, yet continued to treat patients without a licence, at her clinic.
And when that was shut down, she was caught working out of her home.
Now in her 60s, Liu avoided jail time but was ordered to pay about $50,000 in legal fees, and to follow a slew of court orders
But she’s once again accused of ignoring those, too—as well as trespassing on Memorial University property.
Liu was interruptive and argumentative again in court yesterday—actions that got her moved to a separate room during her last appearance, which forced rescheduling of her trial.
She also tried again to argue her case and dispute the charges but Judge Bruce Short would have none of it, noting the long list of other matters waiting to be called.
The judge, like others before him, implored Liu to get a lawyer for her benefit, as well as the court’s, before her two-day trial on January 23rd and 24th of next year.
