RCMP are seeking the public’s help as they investigate vandalism at the memorial site commemorating the 200th anniversary of the death of the Beothuck woman, Desmasduit.
The site, on Blueberry Hill in Botwood, was damaged by ATVs and/or dirt bikes earlier this week, some time between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, police received reports of ATVs doing donuts and causing damage to the area again on Thursday evening.
Officers responded but the machines had left before they arrived.
Additional damage was noticed in the nearby healing garden that had been hydro-seeded.
Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible is asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
In a post on Facebook, the Town of Botwood bemoaned the damage, noting many stakeholders, including the federal and provincial governments, indigenous communities, non-profit groups and local churches have been developing the important site.
