The provincial government is creating a mentoring program that is focused on quality and inclusion that will support early childhood educators and child care services.
Funding will be provided to select child care centres for 15 Quality, Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility Coordinators to be hired throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Government says each coordinator will have a background in psychology, early childhood education, education or closely related field.
The coordinators will provide on site support to ECEs to ensure they are responsive to the individual needs of each child.
The Education Department will issue a call for expressions of interest for child care centres that are interested in participating in the program.
$516,000 is earmarked for the initiative through the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.
