The provincial government is considering changes to address the use of cellphones in classrooms.
It comes as other provinces, such as Manitoba and Ontario, have already introduced legislation banning their use in class.
A recent Narrative Research survey found that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians strongly support such a ban.
Across Atlantic Canada, almost nine out of 10 people surveyed said they would support it, while just one in 10 expressed reservations or opposition.
The CEO of Narrative Research, Margaret Brigley, says the results were similar across all four Atlantic provinces, noting 84 per cent of people in this province said they would be in favour of the ban.
She said those numbers vary somewhat according to age group, with 75 per cent of young people less likely to support it.
Respondents cited the distraction of cellphones as one of the main reasons for supporting a ban.
